FMP show critique

The peice is a piece of art that stands out and makes you look at it with curiosity, it makes you wonder what is the artists view on freedom with the drawing telling and showing a story about people walking the streets along with buildings from photos and other being totally made up from the artists mind it makes you stop and think along with wonder how it could express freedom through a landscape drawing of a street view. It holds your attention with the detail of the shadows of the people, the view from which the drawing is supposed to show how it all fits together. In my opinion the artist is trying to say that people dont use there freedom enough or dont use it to thier advantage or full potencial to get where they want to be in life, this is shown through the youth in the drawing walking round in black with thier huds up in the shadows and other people in crowds going thier every day lives and not taking thier freedom by the horns and doing something with it. I would say it is a quality piece of art as the artist has spent time drawing in the details and going over the piece with layers of colour to make it stand out and make it look as realistic as possible, along with the peice really being thought about as it is not something you would simbolyse as freedom so it is a really individual piece that shows the artists talent and skill. The artist has used all of the space available, leaving no white background along with it being mixed media with the artist using both water colour paints and water colour pencil to show he can use a range of media along with aranging the peices in a rising order of evolution of the art work and in a sort of brick work form to link in with the urban feel the work is trying to show, the artist has also shown he can use tone with the brightness and darkness, showing where the light would be coming from as well as the peice being vibrant with a range of colour  from black to yellow. In my opinion the show venue was not as inviting as it could have been as the church was cold and not as light as it could have been so that all the peices in the exhibition could have had more light to show all the detail of the artwork. The venue did not really symbolize freedom to me either as the venue was as i said cold and a little gloomy where as most people would view freedom as warm and inviting with warm colours and light to show the real brightness of the peices of artwork and show them at thier best

FMP exhibition

Here is my work at the ehibition at saint mary's church for the end of year show. I have set up my work  in a brick work fashion so it links in with the urban and city scape theme of freedom i have shown through my work as well as showing the evolution of my work rising in formation from my first piece to my final peice at the top . My main piece is shown at the top as i wanted people to notice this peice the most as it was my final piece and was my favourite as well, then i have shown my other pieces lower down but still in plain sight with the viewers of the exhibition so that all my peices can be viewed without any problems.   

Artist creative personal statement

As an artist, what makes me tick would have to be the outdoors, urban life along with everyday life. I like to take whats there and make it my own... Mostly in the form of a drawing or water colour painting, for example my favourite thing to do is take a walk through my home town and look at the buildings, how the sky looks, look at how the people around me are acting and what they're doing and this gives me a wave of ideas. From just a few minutes in the outdoors with my headphones in, blocking out the noise of arguements and trouble my ideas flow and i can take the view of an urban street or a local building and draw it into a new environment of a city scape or urban land scape.As far as media goes i tend to keep it to a minimum of coloured and tonal shading pencils for a bold outline or a block of bright colour, i also use water colour paints in some cases, i like to use water colour for skin tones or backgrounds or to bled colour. With mainly using pencil and water colour paints i do like to experiment with the 3D aspect of the art world like wood work and carving,it is something that calms me down but something i could do for hours on end like making sure the wood has a smooth finish and the product is of a good quality...it is just something i really enjoy as a creative practitioner. Some artists i like to follow and keep up with are mostly illustrators such as tony moore ( the creator of the walking dead comics ) and another would be dan mumford who re creates old movie posters and covers along with dark peices like his grim reaper piece and his "gallows" peice of wolves which really make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. So yes i love to experiment with drawing, painting and mix in some wood work with gaining inspiration from my own surroundings and making my art personal to me, to tell the story of me as well as how i see the world around me.

Cardboard city evaluation

For our cardboard city project we had to create a time based media piece which was avideo of what we explored and experimented with such as creating a fort and pyramid with the cardboard boxes that we were given as well as creating a cardboard city scene with our cardboard boxes that we had cut up, re- shaped and decorated to look like parts of barnsley or just buildings from our creative minds. The research we undertuck was about artists such as Jonathon Borofsky and Christian Boltanski and how they used time based media in thier work, Boltanski was our main influence for our time based media video as he created a piece called theatre d'ombre which translates to the theatre of shadows which was about the children of the holocaust and they're memories, this was one of our main focuses. With this project our main medias we used were our cameras from our phones as this would give us the images to create our final video but along the way we used a sort of cling film material to create a stain glass window effect, we have used pens to draw a stop motion scene on the windows of the college and we have used the cardboard boxes along with paint and pencils to create our scenes from our cardboard city strip. With our final video i think it was a good final outcome but i think icould have added a little more like a voice over or some better images or a time lapse video but over all the final outcome was a good standard to me. With the project i handled my time pretty well, a few things were late being handed in but over all i handled my time well. With this project i think it was something i wouldn't think about doing it again as i didn't really enjoy it but if i had to do it agian i would do my best to make it a decent piece.

Time based media

Usually time-based media are video, slide, film, audio or computer based. Part of what it means to experience the art is to watch it unfold over time according to the temporal logic of the medium as it is played back.

Freedom fmp evaluation

With the fmp project we had to base the project on freedom and link it too the magma Carta and its 63 pages through our interests and how we view freedom. I started off with the theme of punk rock music and how the genre of music is not really seen as a way of freedom where as really it is, just through looking different and acting different as well as adding quotes from famous punk rockers such as kurt kobain. As i went into the theme a little more i realised i had hit a dead end and had to re-think my theme and some how tie it in with punk rock, so i went down the route of education and how young people use thier education to achieve thier freedom in the world of work and adult life as well as how the older generation and how they view the younger generation as being a waste of time and how some will never achieve thier freedom with the way they use education. For my research i looked up news articles and how the media had heard from both the younger and older generation on how they view each other, then for more research i went and took some photos of barnsley town centre and of people that were both older and younger and how they used thier time. My main influences for my final piece and other pieces was the work of the artist robert rauschenburg and how he wold cut out pieces such as a picture of John f kenedey and the time around that period with the first man on the moon and the jfk assassination which gave me the idea of using photos and cutting them out to add to a background there for creating a sort collage. For the project i have used media such as shading pencils ( mainly 2B, 4B and 6H ) in my large sheet pieces, water colour paints and pencils in both my sheet pieces and my 64 pages, a fine liner to draw outlines and simple drawings and i have also used photo cut outs to make it look more collage like with in my final piece and other sheet work, i have used these medias in my work as i felt comfortable using them as well as being able to add light, shade and texture with in my work. I think with this project i have handled my time well as all my work is to a high quality with in my ability and nothing has been missed out. I am satisfied with the project as i found it different to the work we have done before as we have been able to explore more with in the art and design world and do what we find interesting. I am satisfied with my work i have produced but if i were to do this project again i would plan better by making sure my ideas would not change so many times and i would do a little more artist research and find more than one artist to influence me as well as having a solid idea for a final piece.

Fmp final piece evolution

Here is my final piece where i have taken a picture of the new sixth form college building under construction. This started off as just a bland grey brusho ink background which was then added to with a 2B shading pencil to draw out the new college, then i used water colour's to place a base layer of colour, block colour then i used water colour pencils to add in details such as the windows, brick work and shadows. Then i thought it looked a little bland, not as free as my other pieces so i went over it and added in some bold lines and traced over the drawing with a 4B shading pencil to make sure it stood out. 

Then to make it better I added in some more buildings that were inspired by my last few pieces along with a few more crowds, traffic light poles, hedges and brick walls that i took pictures of as primary research. To make it more relevant to my theme of youth i added in some graffiti along side the cut outs of young people with hoods up looking like they are up to no good when really they have thier hoods up to get away from the hate and preasure from the older generations of people. 

My final piece represents the evolution of barnsley as a town and how the evolution of barnsley is giving a chance for youth to have a better education, to not end up on the street and instead help othersoff the street by doing well in education and earning thier freedom through hard work and achieving a good life and showing other youths the righter way and the older generation that the youth of today is not a waste of time or too much to deal with.
