Quentin Blake research

Here i have done research on the illustrator Quentin Blake where he has done designs for both david walliams in black and white then for Roald Dahl he drew in water colour making him one of the most well known illustrators of all time with his simple designs but so influential and bright to bring the books he illustrated to life.

Another design for ks2 board

This board is another design for ks2 based on the books of david walliams, from his first " the boy in the dress " to his newer ones like " billionaire boy " and " awful auntie " the board will have different characters from the books along with bright colours and questions on the books to answer.

Ks1 display boards

These 2 boards are for ks1. The boards are bright and colourful to attract the children to interact with them.
The 1st one is a hungry catapilar influenced one where there is the hungry catapilar going over the top of the board along with his cocoon where he will burst from along with a leaf where the children can be put up as the star reader.
The 2nd board is one where the main attraction is the multicoloured elephant reading a book with thought bubbles with colours and shapes along with the star reader and a part of the wall where the children and teachers can write and share work.

Display boards for ks2

These 2 designs are for the ks2 display boards. The first is a captain underpants design where there will be a cut out of captain underpants on the wall with the slogan " be a super reader " along with a laminated piece of card the children n teachers can write on and a star reader slot where they can put a childs name and class on and give a prize every month for the star reader.
The other design is a Matilda board as Matilda is a lovable character that all children can relate to and is a big fan of reading, the slogan would be " read to achieve " with the star reader slot on the board like the others and have a laminated piece of card to write on for tasks or show work.

The colourful design

This design is another filled with different characters like the BFG, Matilda, captain underpants and the iron giant. The wall will be white and then will have different characters around the wall along with a drip effect of colours going around the top of the wall to make it colourful and bright so it will appeal to the children and will give the kids the boost of wanting to read and improve more.

Mix and match design

This design is a mix and match of Roald Dahl characters and others book icons in childrens books like the iron giant, the boy in the dress and characters like Matilda and the BFG. The walls base colour would be a bright green to link with the colour of the school logo and then all the characters coloured in along with a blackboard door so the children can write and draw, to keep them interacting with the wall.

Graffiti style disign

Here is my graffiti design for the library wall where i have taken the slogan " love to read " in bright colours and will place it in the centre of the wall above the radiator so it is the focal point of the wall. The rest of the wall will be green and have splodges of black board paint on the walls, in the shapes of missing brick work, books, letters... Things that are linked to reading and the blackboard paint will give the teachers a canvas to draw on or write a tadk down on. I think this isn't my strongest design but it isn't my weakest one.

Library wall mood board

Here is my library wall mood board where i have collected images or secondary research of library wall designs where they have been painted and decorated to suit children of certain ages like my age group of 5-11 year olds.
I have looked into areas like texture, bright colours and simple designs to keep the children interested and involved when in the learning environment.
I think this sheet could be developed with annotation but appart from this i cannot think or see any ways in which i could improve my moodboard.

Customer board

This is my customer board bassed on my 10 year old brother who attends shawlands which helps me as it shows what he is interested in and what books he reads at school which are on the curiculam.
Here i have shown his favourite colour, green and what he is interested in showing his dream job, his hobbies like gaming and football and how he lives with his mum and 2 brothers.
I think this board could have done with a little more work as it looks bare and needs more writting to show which area is which in his interests.

Display board ideas

Here i have shown some ideas for using the display boards and how to make them a little more interactive with the children. Here i have shown my crosh hatch idea with pinning examples of work up or tasks for the children that can be set by the teacher. Another idea to keep the children involved and entertained with reading is the brain cog or wheel where the tasks for the term or week are set on each pin or section of the wheel/cog and each child spins it to get a task for the book they are reading. Each task gets a little harder and at the end of the term or half term the 5 children with the most stars or points gets a little treat for all the hard work they have put into the challenges or tasks.

Illustrator Iacodo Bruno

Here i looked at an illustrator from italy called Iacodo Bruno who is also a graphic artist and specialises in working on black background with sharp white pencil, chalk or charcoal. This is from the book scary tales which is what my brother was reading at school which gave me a little influence and an idea into what the children are reading through the term.

Graffiti and murals

For this project the client suggested a graffiti mural of some sort to encourage children to read and keep on reading, this idea i liked and decided to look into it more looking at different pieces and different styles of writing and different colours in what goes well together and how the colour flows.

Project mindmaps

Here i have made mindmaps on the library wall and display boards to see what i can do with this project and what i have come up with for basic ideas.
